Caveman Grid Tutorial |
In this tutorial I'll be going over an effect that really has no good title, so I've just called it "Caveman Grid"- it's a very bold graphic that can be used for a background on wallpapers or signatures. This is done using Adobe Photoshop 6.0, and a basic understanding of filters and tools is assumed.
The first thing to do is open a new document. For this tutorial I'm using a 250x250 px canvas, but it by no means has to be square. Set your colors on default (ctrl D), and go to Filter > Render > Clouds. This will give us a nice random pattern to start with. |
Go to Filter > Pixelate > Mosaic. The size you choose will depend on what size you're making the image, and how much black space you want. For what I'm doing, I set my mosaic size on 50. When I used it for a wallpaper, however, I used a larger setting than the default size. |
Next to go Filter > Stylize > Find Edges. After you've done this, invert your image (ctrl I). It should now look like the example on the left. |
Now go to Filter > Blur > Radial Blur. Keep the setting on "radial," and on the default amount. The image looks pretty bland, but don't worry- we'll add some color. |
Now you can fill the image with the color of your choice, setting the fill type on Color Dodge. Please note- to get the reddish tint on the image I'm showing you, I actually used an orange (F26522), so you may have to experiment with the colors to get what you want. After that, I simply blurred the image once to soften it. |
And now it's done! Call it what you like, but it works as a nice bold effect. Toggle with it a bit and see what you can come up with. |
