Ghostly Spider Web Tutorial

In this tutorial I'll being showing you how to make a great spider web in just a few steps. It's great for Halloween and really very easy. This is done using Adobe Photoshop 6.0, and a basic understanding of filters and tools is assumed.

The first thing to do is open a new document. For this tutorial I'm using a 250x250 px canvas, but it by no means has to be square. I'm filling it with black for my background color, although you could probably experiment with other colors (but dark works best).

With white as your foreground color, choose your line tool, and set the Mode to "Dissolve." Start on the outside and make titled lines sort of circling in to the center, like in the example. It's good to get some nice long lines, but don't forget to add some variation to the lengths and positions.

Next to go Filter > Distort > Glass. Set it on, Distortion=1, Smoothness=3, with the Texture on "Frosted." Leave the Scaling on it's default, 100%.

Now go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. You only need a little bit to soften up the image plenty. Here I used a setting of about 1.5. Almost done!

Duplicate your first layer. Set the new layer on Screen, as shown on the left. After you've done this, go to Edit > Transform > Rotate. Rotate the second layer so it fills out the spider web and Apply.

Now you should have something similar to the spider web shown here! Not too difficult, was it? And this can definitely be experimented with to create something new.
