Crystal Petals Tutorial |
In this tutorial you'll learn how to make a great flower-like effect for signatures, avatars, or other graphics. This is done using Adobe Photoshop 6.0, and a basic understanding of filters and tools is assumed.

The first thing to do is open a new document. For this tutorial I'm using a 250x250 px canvas, but it will adapt to just about any shape or size.
Hit "D" to set your colors on the standard black and white. Then to to Filter > Render > Clouds. (Hardly a revolutionary first step, eh?) You should end up with just the basic clouds background (feel free to try again for a different pattern).
Next to go Filter > Distort > Wave. Use the settings shown below. (Generators= 1; Wavelength= 1, 25; Amplitude= 170, 471; Scale = Horiz. 1, Vert. 100). |
Now go to Filter > Distort > Polar Coordinates, set on Rectangular to Polar. You may now be able to see a little of the flower shape. |
Duplicate your first layer. Set the new (top) layer on Overlay. Then, to go Filter > Distort > Twirl, and leave it on its automatic settings. |
The last step is to colorize both layers of the image (Ctrl U, set to "Colorize") - try different hues for each level for a more interesting look. And you have your crystalized petals! If you have any problems with or questions about this tutorial, feel free to E-mail SenshiGuardian@hotmail.com. |
