Cross-Hatch Lighting Tutorial

In this tutorial you'll learn how to make this simple but high-tech appearing effect that looks like cross-hatch spotlight lighting. This is done using Adobe Photoshop 6.0, and a basic understanding of filters and tools is assumed.

The first thing to do is open a new document. For this tutorial I'm using a 250x250 px canvas, but it will adapt to just about any shape or size.
Hit "D" to set your colors on the standard black and white. Then to to Filter > Render > Clouds. Now go to Image > Adjust > Auto Contrast.

Next to go Filter > Pixelate > Blur > Motion Blur. Set your angle at 45 degrees and your distance at around 400. Once this is done, use Auto Contrast again.

Duplicate your layer, and with the new layer go Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal. Change the blend mode to Overlay. Almost done!

Now just hit Cntrl U, and colorize the layers. For the best effect, use different colors on the two layers- such as blue on one and red on the other, blue and green, etc.
