Cross-Hatch Lighting Tutorial |
In this tutorial you'll learn how to make this simple but high-tech appearing effect that looks like cross-hatch spotlight lighting. This is done using Adobe Photoshop 6.0, and a basic understanding of filters and tools is assumed.

The first thing to do is open a new document. For this tutorial I'm using a 250x250 px canvas, but it will adapt to just about any shape or size.
Hit "D" to set your colors on the standard black and white. Then to to Filter > Render > Clouds. Now go to Image > Adjust > Auto Contrast.
Next to go Filter > Pixelate > Blur > Motion Blur. Set your angle at 45 degrees and your distance at around 400. Once this is done, use Auto Contrast again. |
Duplicate your layer, and with the new layer go Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal. Change the blend mode to Overlay. Almost done! |
Now just hit Cntrl U, and colorize the layers. For the best effect, use different colors on the two layers- such as blue on one and red on the other, blue and green, etc. |
